What is Torch Down Roofing?
Torch down, or modified bitumen, consists of a polyester mat and membrane surrounded by a thick layer of asphalt. We roll this product over roofs to give them durable protection. Though the material is lightweight, the torch down is durable and strong, able to resist the impacts and weathering of the outdoor elements easily.
Why We Use Torch Down
Torch-down roofing offers several advantages that make it an excellent roofing material in some situations.
- First, the material is very flexible. The asphalt layer in a torch-down roof features additives that help the material expand and contract without cracking. This flexibility means the material will hold up regardless of the temperature.
- Secondly, the beneficial quality of torch-down roofing is its thickness. A single sheet of torch down could be three times thicker than the membranes in PVC roofing systems. Thickness is important because you want your residential and commercial roof to take impacts without puncturing.
- Lastly, the torch down also features outstanding durability. The material is resistant to moisture and UV rays and does not puncture easily. With their exceptional durability, torch-down roofs can last and maintain their functionality for up to 20 years.
